The Fine Print Workshop

Advanced Darkroom Procedures

Date: June 25 - 28, 2010 Instructor: Richard White

Producing hand made crafted prints from the darkroom is still thriving as an art form and these prints have become quite sort after over the past few years. The workshop offered here is designed to take your printing further. A general knowledge of darkroom procedures is desirable as you will learn new techniques that will help make your prints even more rewarding. The workshop will be restricted to just 6 participants and will involve creative printing in Richard's spacious darkroom. Printing from one or more of your own negatives, under Richard's guidance, the emphasis will be to extract the most amount of information and make the most expressive print possible.

We will consider many printing techniques such as various ways of selective masking of negatives, whole and selective pre-exposure of paper, developer formulae, print bleaching and toning for permanence, alternative archival print washing plus a review of the more common applications of print making. Prior to the workshop you will be sent one of Richard's negatives to make a print from to bring to the workshop.

This is not a workshop for the new or inexperienced printer, but for those who have a reasonable knowledge of print making. Participant's portfolios will also be reviewed during our print discussion session. The workshop begins Friday evening at 7:30pm concluding on Monday around 1pm and includes daily and evening refreshment breaks. Early enrolment is advised because of limited numbers.

Workshop Fee: $550
